Thank you!

May 5, 2011

Just a little note to say a big thank you to everyone who came to Edd’s tribute concert on Saturday (April 30) at the Amersham Arms in New Cross, where we played alongside The Vamp, Apple Eyes, Wolventrix, The Hidden Messages, Ooberman and the Electric Soft Parade. We raised £800.12 for the Ruby Lambert Trust and Cardiac Risk in the Young, the two charities nominated by Edd’s family for the night.

We also want to say a massive thank you to The Hidden Messages for inviting us to play some of Edd’s songs with them. You can watch a video of us playing Elephant Graveyard with them below:

One of the many highlights of the night was the performance by Dan and Sophia from Ooberman. You can watch their performance of A Million Suns below:

Thanks to all the other bands and everyone who came for such a lovely night – it really was a perfect tribute to Edd.

Tribute show and Indietracks

April 16, 2011

This is just a reminder that we’re playing at a very special tribute show to our former member Edd Billig, who sadly passed away last year. The show, which takes place at the Amersham Arms in New Cross on Saturday April 30, will be headlined by members of Edd’s two favourite bands – Electric Soft Parade and Ooberman.

As well as playing euphonium for A Little Orchestra, Edd was also in a number of other bands, including The Hidden Messages and Apple Eyes, both of whom are also playing on the bill. All proceeds from the night will be donated to charity.

The final line-up for the gig is:

Tom White (Electric Soft Parade)
Dan Popplewell & Sophia Churney (Ooberman)
The Hidden Messages and A Little Orchestra
Wolventrix
Apple Eyes
The Vamp + Burgi

Tickets are available at http://www.wegottickets.com/event/113869 and there is also a Facebook page for the gig.

Videos from Read and Shout!

April 16, 2011

We had a wonderful time playing at the Read and Shout mini-festival at the beautiful West Norwood Library last month. We saw loads of great bands, heard some very thought-provoking speeches and we came away feeling really inspired by the whole day. The event was arranged to help raise awareness of the cuts facing libraries, and was part of the national Save Our Libraries campaign. You can read more about the campaign on the Voices for the Library homepage.

We’d like to say thanks to organiser Matt Stead for inviting us, and also thanks to Darren Hayman, Andy and Emma from Pocketbooks and Pete from The Sweet Nothings for performing with us! We would like to say an extra special “thank you” to Andy who not only performed the wonderful Pocketbooks song “End of the Pier” with us, but who also wrote the orchestration for Darren and Emma/Pete’s appearances.

Here’s us playing “Out of My League” with Darren Hayman:

and here’s a clip of our cover of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart’s Young Adult Friction with special guest appearances from Pete from The Sweet Nothings and Emma from Pocketbooks:

Happy Christmas!

December 19, 2010

Hello everyone, hope you’re all enjoying the snowy weather – doesn’t it look lovely and Christmassy outside?

We just wanted to say a big “thank you” to everyone who’s come along to our shows this year – 2010 has been so much fun! Since forming in February, we’ve been lucky enough to play alongside some of our favourite bands, including The Loves, The School and The Pipettes, as well as playing with some very special guests at our Christmas show at the Luminaire. We’ve also played some smaller shows and concerts for friends, including  practising our best Damned impressions to play at a punk rock wedding! And, if that wasn’t enough, our violinists Matthew and Claire have also been especially busy, helping to record the new Pocketbooks album and also playing with World Atlas at a gig at the Betsey Trotwood earlier this year. Phew!

We’re now working on some very exciting plans for next year - do come and follow us on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/orchestralittle to see what we’re up to! We’re still looking for a cellist, so do contact us on alittleorchestra@gmail.com if you’re interested in applying.

Have a great Christmas everyone and a very happy new year!

Two Christmas shows!

November 11, 2010

We’re very excited to be playing two Christmas shows in London next month – and hope you can join us to help us get in the festive mood!

On December 4, we’re very honoured to be playing with the wonderful 60s-pop band The School at their Christmas party at the Luminaire in Kilburn. As well as The School, we’ll be playing alongside The Loves, Lucky Delucci, Tigercats and more to be announced. It’s a wonderful line-up, with lots of special Christmassy performances planned. The night starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £5 in advance or £7 on the door and can be bought from We Got Tickets.

On December 5, we’ll be playing a very special performance of Terry Riley’s minimalist classic “In C” at the monthly experimental Moose Factory night in East London. We’re playing with Slow Revolt and Pink ‘n’ Ruby and the gig runs from 3.30pm-7pm. Tickets are available on the door.
